AT&T Service
This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T’s 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band UMTS 850/1900 MHz network, which provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. This makes it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services.

In areas where the 3G network is not available, you’ll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it’s fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. (Customers must be in an area served by the company’s 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) A majority of users in the architecture, engineering and construction industries rated the ability to share live video through Video Share highly, according to research commissioned by AT&T. Video Share lets you see progress on a job site or review the day’s work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so.

You can take advantage of the AT&T Navigator GPS software and service, a full-featured premium navigation application that includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search.

With 3G connectivity, you’ll be able to access AT&T’s Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. And you get access to AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what’s playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what’s hot with The Buzz music news portal. (A MEdia Max subscription bundle is recommended for accessing AT&T’s Internet, video, and music services.)

4 Stars Excellent Entry Level Texting Phone =)
This is a great entry level texting phone for all the text message whores out there. Despite all the pictures advertising the phone, it only appears to be big and bulky but it’s the complete opposite. The phone is actually very slim & slender. I love that it comes in 3 different colors (Green, Blue, & Rose White) and probably more on the way. I picked up the green one and i love it. I originally purchased the Samsung Epix PDA phone and was so disappointed by the awful operating system and returned it right away. Finally the Samsung Propel hits the stores and it’s basically a PDA smart phone without the Window Mobile operating system (Which is awful by the way). I love the Samsung Menu and UI. It’s easy to use and just navigating through it is a breeze. You don’t even need to look at the manual to operate this thing. The one downside to the Propel is that the screen could be a bit bigger and the colors could be a bit more vibrant. You only get 65K colors as oppose to the usual Samsung high end phones that come with 262K colors. So, that was one of the disappointments with this phone. Samsung knew this phone was strictly for the teens so i can see why the price is so cheap. Considering the friendly price is probably a big reason why you don’t get the 262K colors. Another flaw is the Instant Messaging. You do get AIM & Yahoo but the buddylist is not in real time. You will only be able to see a few friends on your buddylist not all. But if you IM them they will respond even though they appear to not be signed in. The best thing about my Sidekick LX is that IM is in real time. I signed on from both devices and had about 50 friends on my buddylist appear on my SK while the Propel only had 3. As i stated before even though only 3 appear you can still IM the ones that don’t appear and chat with them. Also AT&T for some reason is so stingy with the accessories. I wish it came with an additional USB charger, free micro SD memory card, or a case. Unfortunately NONE. All you get is the cell & wall charger. Overall i am very pleased with my purchase and recommend anyone looking for a texting phone or any device that might come close to a Sidekick on the AT&T network, this would be the phone 4 u.

Pros:

Sleek sexy design

Comes in multiple colors

Camera/camcorder (Really should be 6.0 megapixel by now)

Built in Messaging Clients (AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Etc)

Access to Emails

Qwerty Keyboard

MP3 Players

Samsung Menu

GPS

Slider Phone

Micro SD (Up to 8GB)

Cons:

Only 65K Colors on screen

Only 1.3 Megapixel Camera/Camcorder (Really should be 6.0 by now)

Battery is really thin so carry an extra charger with you

AT&T is really cheap with the accessories (Only device & charger included)

Wish a USB Charger was included

4 Stars Samsung propel
I have had this phone for 3 weeks. It is an ok phone. Only thing I really dont like is how fast the battery runs down. I use to have a little LG flip phone and I only charged it once a week. This one is like every other day and more if I go to the media mall. I was also disappointed when I downloaded a message alert tone from the AT&T ringtone page only to find out you cant use it as a message tone. Since I text alot I thought it would be cute to have animal sounds as alerts. Other than these two things it is a pretty little phone and I was able to get it in green which is my favorite color.

Instantly contact any other AT&T user with this phone’s Push-to-Talk (PTT) functionality, which works across the entire network to make sure you have a clear signal so you can get things done. When a quick PTT call needs to be a longer discussion convert the call easily to a regular voice call–works for one-to-one calls as well as group calls. Save time on group calling by pulling up your contacts and simply “marking” those you wish to include on a call–no need to set up and save groups before calling, unless you want to.

Flip open your mobile phone anytime and connected to your friends via the GPS-enabled Loopt social networking service.

Loopt Social Networking

It provides the ability to find where friends are and what they’re doing via interactive maps, instantly share photos and comments with friends and communities and discover and explore nearby places and events friends have recommended. Your mobile phone now becomes a social compass.

No need to manually update location; simply pull out your phone and see where your friends are and what they are doing. Once friends are found, text or IM them right from the map. You can even set alerts to be notified when friends are nearby. Access your Loopt account from your mobile phone and computer–everything you can do on Loopt mobile, you can do on the web.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Not the best phone
I have had several Nokia phones, but this one was a disappointment. It is very attractive (I love red) and easy to handle, but I had so much trouble. It could have just been my phone……it would not hold the charge and whenever it wanted to, it would just shut off….no warning. I had to change phones because my phone is my business. All other phones have been great and the people at AT&T were fabulous! MD

3 Stars Good phone – not too complicated
I love Nokia phones and I really prefer flips so this phone was perfect for me. It offers some smart phone features, but it really isn’t. Actually I think I’m on the more “basic” side of things so I don’t even utilize most of the pre-installed features ATT put on it.

A couple cons:

- the phone can really pinch your fingers when opening

- I haven’t been able to disable the Media Net, PTT, or GPS smart keys so I think I’m getting charged for some of them even though I only accidentally hit the keys…

- The red color is a bit pink – expect some comments if you are a guy

Pros:

- Nokia so it’s good quality. Battery life is solid

- Feels solid and is pretty user friendly

- Can’t beat the price

I am not a huge techie so I have to read other reviews so I see how to disable some of the features and/or add free ones…

1 Star Horrible stupid phone
This phone is horrendously bad. Here are the pros:

?Very long battery life

?Can change keypad light colors

?Takes very good pictures

That’s it! Now here are the cons:

?Flat buttons are hard to text with

?Counter-intuitive side buttons cause frequent accidental accessing of PTT. “PTT charges apply. Continue, yes or no”? NOOOOO!!!!

?Text msgs and/or email received will not display notice on cover or screen when opened. At least not after a few moments. Seems to only display within the span of a few minutes. After that, you really don’t know you’ve recv’d anything.

?Horrible, counter-intuitive menus. Ugh!

?Calendar events & reminders FLASH on the display. Want a challenge? Read the tiny FLASHING text while driving.

?Drops calls before they are even recv’d. Several people have told me that it sounds like I pick up but keep disconnecting. I actually reach for the phone each time but it stops ringing before I even get to it. It ain’t me!

?Pinches your fingers when closing flap because it is tall and awkward. Fingers are toward top when closing w/ one hand and PINCH!

?Frequent inexplicable static. Never had it on my Motorola V557 through same ATT carrier. Why just this phone?

?Several areas use slightly dark blue text on a light blue background. VERY hard to read. Designed by the colorblind apparently.

?Tiny thin text on certain areas of information like message details. Cannot be modified to be any more legible even after increasing font size.

?You have to RESET an alarm that you’ve set for yourself to go off every workday at the same time. That’s right, you have to RE-ENTER the TIME after you’ve woken up & acknowledged the alarm. LAAAME!

?Has touch bars on the front cover to access menu items from the cover display. Just rub your fingers and you have access. Convenient right? NOT! It locks for periods of time you set, but guess what, there is no disable lock feature. So 99 minutes is the most you get.

?Took me days to finally find a simple leather magnetic flap case w/ swivel belt clip that would fit this phone. I’m returning the phone, so now I’m stuck w/ the illusive case that both ATT & Nokia do not sell.

?Oh, and by the way. The 3G sound effect programmed by ATT to play at startup and shutdown is LOUD & OBNOXIOUS! Would hate to see the looks I would get were I to need to turn it off at a funeral or library.

I’m sure there is more, but that ought to be enough to convey my disdain for this phone. I really do hate everything about it. I had no idea I could loathe an inanimate object as much as I do the Nokia 6650. You may too. But don’t take my word for it. Order this little treat & take the challenge of the flashing tiny text on the locked display or try to catch the call before it disconnects the caller. Much fun to be had! Frustration high excellent!

4 Stars I mostly love this phone
First of all, this is my 5th nokia phone over the years, and this one did not disappoint. Call quality was the most important thing to me, and I’ve had no trouble there. That said, I also am a sucker for a good design, and the 6650 just plain looks & feels good. So here’s my own pro & con list.

pros:

* great design. very compact, slim, way cool lit up keypad

* no problems with call quality

* haven’t had any problems texting thanks to the small dimples to keep my thumbs oriented

* takes decent pictures, but remember that this is a phone, not a camera people!

* bought a memory card & a data cable, so I can now have almost 2gb of my own music arranged in playlists

* wonderful display – once I changed the background to show more contrast.

* one touch button to access AT&Ts navigator gps system.

cons:

* wish I could disable the PTT side button too, but it’s not THAT big of a pain to cancel out of

* wish there was more of a visible cursor when texting. Maybe a contrasting color block instead of a very thin vertical line?

* don’t like that it requires a special tiny earphone plug, but then again I’m not planning to replace my ipod with it, so it’s not that big a deal

All in all, I’ve been very happy with this little phone.

4 Stars Wonderful Phone
This product was worth the money. It comes with 4 games, audio and video recorder. The only problems I have found are that the screen scratches pretty easily and that the camera is not as high of quality as I would have liked. But overall I have enjoyed it immensely.

4 Stars Exactly what I wanted
I used to have an LG Chocolate w/Verizon, but I had to switch providers to get better reception. I didn’t want to pay for a dataplan or a premium for either the iphone or the Blackberry Bold, but I knew I wanted the following in a phone:

1) A full qwerty keyboard so that I can easily text people.

2) Keypad that’s not attached to a single piece of plastic, so that one day pressing one key could activate more than one key.

3) Long battery life.

The Samsung satisfies all these conditions and I’m very happy with my choice. Though it looks bulky, it’s smaller than my brother’s Blackbery Bold, and lighter. I have the red/white one, and the color scheme on the keypad makes it easy to see where punctuation marks/camera/send keys are located. I do think the font is a little too large and the ringtone too high (neither get really smaller or quieter), but this may be a plus for older people.

In comparison to my Chocolate, though, the Propel lacks:

1) Beautiful graphics…it’s got less colors

2) Screen seems to scratch more easily even though both are slide phones.

3) User interface software is not efficient, I often have to go through multiple menus to get to what I want. This is probably an ATT problem.

4) Has that plasticky feel. Overall the Chocolate, though older, seems like a higher quality phone…but I had to switch for reception reasons =\

Some other notes…I think the battery life is starting to go down with use, I’ve had it for two weeks, and I need to charge it now every other day. Overall I think it’s a great phone if you text a lot.

5 Stars Favorite Phone
I got this phone after weeks of research. I was not attached to a specific provider, I just wanted to find a phone that was sturdy, had an easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard, and a good display, and was attractive. I totally found it in the Samsung Propel. I went into a bunch of cell phone stores and looked at all the phones and this was my favorite. It’s a slider, and the qwerty keyboard looks a little small but I was really surprised how easy it was. I have had other samsung qwerty phones and I got used to the keyboard but it was still kind of awkward, and this one was super easy. The menus are really user-friendly, the screen is nice and bright. The sound quality is good, too. I like that it shows the day of the week and the date on the screen, and there is one button that turns silent (vibrate) on and off, in the case of an emergency. My favorite thing about this phone though is that the battery lasts FOREVER. Literally the battery has lasted me for 4 days on standby and it’s still on 2 bars, and with texting/calling throughout the day it was still on 2 bars by the end of two days. It also charges very quickly. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who likes lots of features, easy to use interfaces, and texts a lot.

AT&T Service
This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T’s 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the tri-band UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100 MHz network, which provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps.

You’ll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where AT&T offers international data roaming.

With 3G connectivity, you’ll be able to access AT&T’s Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call.

It’s also pre-loaded with AT&T’s Mobile Banking application, which is compatible with accounts from banks including Wachovia, SunTrust, Synovus, and BancorpSouth. Mobile Banking from AT&T affords you the flexibility to stay on top of your banking needs while you’re on the move, enabling you to check your account balance, securely transfer funds between your eligible accounts, view and pay bills, and review your transaction history. AT&T customers pay no additional fee to access mobile banking and, because the application resides on the handset, the service is optimized to reduce the number of new page views necessary to complete a transaction. Minimal data usage charges apply and vary based on individual use.

4 Stars great for business usage if on exchange
i got rid of my iphone 3G since it didn’t work well with Exchange and also couldn’t type well with two thumbs.

pros:

keyboard

GPS (works great with google maps)

Wifi

screen size

cons:

when talking on the phone sometimes, my face accidentally presses a button

5 Stars Awesome phone
Cellular companies are difficult in the US, this is a fact we all have to come to accept. So AT&T will probably not help you out if you have problems with this phone, or any other. Samsung, on the other hand is generally a pretty nice company to deal with. The Epix is an extremely well *designed* phone. It has an extremely fast processor, proven layout from the Blackjacks, and most importantly, it has the greatest thing ever put into a phone, a mouse. WinMo is an absolute beast to deal with, but with the addition of a mouse, it’s a delight. However, you trade a real D-Pad for a mouse, which makes *most* games unplayable. The mouse can be used as a D-Pad, but it’s awkward. If you think this will annoy you, it will, but you’ll adapt quickly.

Now, let’s get to the main competition: the Fuze. My wife has a Fuze. She loves it and I love my Epix. The Fuze is gorgeous, inside and out, in a way the Epix could never match up to. The TouchFlo thing is a delight to use, since it masks the shortcomings of windows mobile quite well. The Epix doesn’t really attempt to, and don’t expect it to. The Fuze has a massive army of modders who have made everything from turning the capacitive touch part of the phone into a scroller to making any shape or color of TouchFlo (My wife currently has the black TouchFlo from the HTC Diamond). The Epix has a small, loyal following of modders who are mostly focused on bug-fixing.

Which brings us to the most important point: bugs. The Epix has them. I expected it to be more solid since samsung is experienced by now, but I was wrong. If you search the AT&T forums, you will quickly find a 30 page thread about the dreaded slog dump issue. It is worth a read. The good news is that the bugs are hit and miss. Either you will have it bad, or you will be fine. Other than the slog dump, the bugs have been fixed (only one by samsung, the rest by diligent phone modders).

Cliff notes:

1. I LOVE THIS PHONE. It’s fast and I honestly cannot describe how amazing the tiny mouse is.

2. It’s not about the looks (GUI speaking)

3. AT&T and samsung have done little to fix frustrating and obvious bugs that plague some users and leave others just fine.

4. The Fuze is better in every way except 3: processor speed (noticeably), lack of tiny mouse (once you have it, WinMo sucks without it), and battery life (also really noticeably)

****Very important links:

****Read these if you are considering this phone

[...]

Most bug fixes are noted in these two sites:

[...]

[...]

Get the Epix or the Fuze, forget the iPhone unless you only specifically want to do the things the iPhone advertises it does, because it doesn’t really do anything else. The Fuze can do anything the iPhone can do and more, even if you have to hack it a little to do it. If you’re not with AT&T yet, the Samsung Saga through Verizon is very much worth a look.

Don’t be afraid to mod it a little if you get an Epix, AT&T couldn’t care less.

4 Stars Epix……Epic
Great phone. I love the internet, I actually do like the options of scrolling, touching, and using a pen.I I like the phone despit all the lil corks about it which are :

1) I will say that when sun shines on the phone you cannot use the touchscreen very well. 2) I cannot understand how to group forward, like funny texts. 3) when I press the answer button it just usally hangs up on the person.

I can easily text, quailty of hearing is great, I pick up in more places than other phones I had and the phone is derable.

1 Star Sorry, your Samsung warranty is voided
I purchased a Samsung Epix from Amazon in December. I used it for approximately 3 months and was generally satisfied, slowly getting used to a new operating system. In early March, I noticed that the charging light was not on when the phone was connected to the charging cable. To me, it appeared that the contacts in the charging adapter/USB slot had failed. In addition, consistent with that observation, my computer no longer recognized the device when connected thru the same phone port which doubles for the charger and the USB cable. I returned the phone to Samsung for repair. Samsung returned the phone to me unrepaired with a slip which stated that my “phone is damaged beyond economical repair in the form of a warped board, or missing or damaged components. The factory warrant has been voided.” I spoke with Samsung customer service including being routed, at my insistence, to their Executive Customer Relations, all to no avail. I was told that the technical people said the phone was damaged and the warranty was void. I don’t recall dropping the phone. I never stuck any objects in the USB port. The phone has no visible marks on the outside indicating any sort of traumatic blow. Since I had no insurance, I am now stuck in a 2 yr ATT contract with an old phone and out the cost of the Epix plus the cost of add-in programs which I had purchased, and cannot by a subsidized new phone for almost two years, or I have to pay a termination fee.

4 Stars Awesome PDA
I love this phone. It is the next step up from the BlackJack. The only draw back I have found so far is if you really use the phone on a daily basis for work, there is not enough battery time. I have to keep a charger at my desk and in the car.

The touchscreen works great you can even write on the screen using the transcribing tool instead of typing with the keyboard.

Overall it’s a great phone but make sure have an extra battery or charger handy if the pda side of the phone is going to be its primary use.

4 Stars Proprietary Ports & iffy GPS & inaccurate DB
This is my first “Smart Phone” & I love what it can do.

Wished I had waited for the Pro to get WM6 for the MS Office compatability. My only complaint is the propriatary multi-function port on the right side, that & the lack of a standard headset jack. You are forced to buy an adapter to use wired headsets & also a special USB cable as they share the same port with the power adapters. I bought a Motorola S9 Bluetooth Stereo headset but have lots of reception issues when playing back music. I also bought Sony DR-BT22A Stereo headset that works better. The Navigator GPS that came built in is a bit flakey & the DB of business’s is way outta date. I had looked up the nearest Gas stations & the first three I went to no longer existed. If it had WM6 like the Propel Pro you can use a Garmin XT microSD card GPS unit with it which according to a friend of mine works like a champ but is stuck on a locked 2GB microSD card. I love the ability to check my yahoo mail anytime but the lack of access to my yahoo address book makes it a pain to have to remember peoples email address’. The Built in IM app is nice but only lets you use one service & account at a time. I’ve taken quite a few photos & videos which are easily uploaded via MMS to Facebook & Myspace.

4 Stars Samsung Propel
It is an excellent phone with great reception. It actually has more features than I need, but it is nice to have the features if I need them in the future.
