An engineer has developed every teen parent’s dream device: a car ignition key that blocks cell phone calls and text messaging by a teen driver who is operating a vehicle.

Last year a survey reported that nearly a third of 16- and 17-year olds admit talking on the phone while driving. Nearly one in four acknowledge texting. This year the numbers are even higher. It's a practice some Kentucky and Indiana lawmakers want to stop.
The system includes a device that encloses a car key – one for each teen driver or family member. The device connects wirelessly with each key user’s cell phone via either Bluetooth or RFID (radio-frequency identification) technologies.
