Olympus TP 7 Telephone Recording Device

Ever need to record an important telephone conversation? The TP-7, telephone pickup, makes phone recording two sides of the conversation. Just plug the TP-7 jack into the “MIC” jack of your recorder, and put the earphone side into your ear. When speaking on the telephone, the TP-7 will capture both sides of the conversation for recording by your voice recorder.Includes adapter to convert from monaural 3.5mm mini-plug to stereo 3.5mm mini-plug. Also includes monaural 3.5mm mini-plug to monaural 2.5mm mini-plug adapter.

5 Stars Ear-bud Phone recorder is a great innovation
We are using an Olympus WAS-331M Digital Voice Recorder for interviews for an academic research project, and found that some interviews needed to be done by phone. At first I was surprised that Olympus’ telephone recording device was an ear-bud instead of attaching to the phone cord. Then I realized what an improvement it was – you can use it on a cordless phone, a cell phone, or a call over a computer through the internet! The sound quality is great – or as good as your phone connection, anyway.

Two notes: (1) It comes with two adapter jacks, but the instructions are minimal to figure out which to use. (2) Make sure to plug the jack into the recorder’s “mic” plug, not the “ear” plug. It will still record if plugged into the wrong jack, but the sound quality will be terrible.

4 Stars Wonderful device
I am very pleased with my purchase and would not hesitate to recommend Item being reviewed the Olympus TP-7 Telephone Recording.

3 Stars Good not great
This microphone seems well made, despite being inexpensive, and the sound quality is good. But there are disadvantages. First, you have to wear it in your ear as you talk. That’s awkward for me. I can feel it between the phone and my ear and it gets in the way, sonically — you don’t hear as well with it in. Worse, it records my voice much more loudly than the person at the other end of the line.

So, yes, it works, and yes, I can get used to it, but it’s not an ideal solution.

5 Stars Effective
This inexpensive microhone goes in your ear and allows you to record phone conversations over any kind of phone (including cellphones, home phones or payphones) without any adapter. It feels like any earbud for an MP-3 player and does not degrade the sound quality of the conversation. I pair it with my Olympus VN-3100PC and the recording clarity and quality are excellent.

5 Stars Great product
Great price,Clear recordings. ear piece stays in place. I am pleased and have purchased three of these. Amazon has the best price of anyone.

5 Stars Works better than expected
I have an Olympus ws-110 recorder and the TP7 ear mic to conduct interviews for research. My current setup is through a telephony system on my PC. I wear a headset with the TP7 in my ear and the recording is better than I expected. It works for me.

5 Stars works with pc sound card
After reading the comments about the mic only working with recorders that provide power to the mic, when I at first tried it with my pc as the recording device and it didn’t work I thought that was that. On a whim I plugged it in using the included stereo adapter and then it worked great.

1 Star Kind of a crapshoot
The TP7 I recieved from Adorama Camera didn’t function and Adorama didn’t seem to care much, so good luck with this earpiece. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

I had better luck just turning an “open air” earbud around to face into the phone’s earpiece, holding it in place with a rubber band and getting completely buzz-free recording.

2 Stars Seems complicated
I haven’t used it because it seems too complicated. To use this device you have to put it in your ear. Usually I already have a blue tooth ear piece in my ear. I was hoping for a recording device that would hook to the phone base somehow.

5 Stars Awesome!!!!
I would give this product 10 stars if I could. I was ready to be disappointed when I ordered this. Boy was I wrong. It works great!

5 Stars What took them so long to come up with this?
After having struggled with every other design of telephone recording microphone, including the awful suction cup design (never sticks long enough to be useful, plus terrible sound quality all around) and the type that plug into the actual line between a corded phone handset and the dial pad), I finally discovered this device and I am enamored with the simplicity and effectiveness of its design. First, it is so comfortable that I often forget I am wearing it. Secondly, it records even better than my previous technique of aiming a shotgun mike at a conference phone, without compromising my in-call experience at all. Thirdly, although, as another reviewer mentioned, it does not record in stereo, I can imagine any applications (at least that apply to my work) where that feature might be useful. This is a high-quality piece of gear and it is at an affordable price. I’ve paid far more and received far less from competing products.

By the way, for the tech-curious, I am using the Sony Professional Portable 24-bit Linear Audio Recorder, which enables me to monitor my sound quality and to adjust as necessary. Other recorders with similar capabilities should perform equally as well. All of my problems with recording calls, whether on cell phone or landline, have been solved. Thanks, Olympus!
